About this calculator
Zakat pendapatan is the annual 2.5% obligation on a Muslim's earnings, payable once your net income for the year exceeds the nisab (the threshold equivalent to 85 g of gold). In Malaysia each state zakat authority — Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS), PPZ-MAIWP for Wilayah Persekutuan, MAIK Kedah, and others — publishes its own nisab and may differ slightly on permitted deductions. The most commonly accepted deductions are: oneself (≈RM10,000/yr), spouse (≈RM3,000), each child, parent contributions, EPF/KWSP contributions, and other basic living costs. This calculator uses a simplified model: you enter monthly gross income and total monthly basic-needs deductions; we multiply both by 12 to get annual figures, subtract deductions from income, and apply 2.5% if the result meets the nisab you provided. Always double-check the final figure against your state's official calculator before paying. Zakat paid is rebatable against your income tax via a tax credit (PCB).
Formula
Zakat = 2.5% × max(0, (gross annual income − annual deductions)) — if amount ≥ nisab
Example calculation
Example: RM6,000/month income, RM2,000/month deductions
Annual income RM72,000 − deductions RM24,000 = RM48,000 net. That exceeds the RM26,000 nisab, so zakat due is 2.5% × RM48,000 = RM1,200/year (RM100/month).
