PTPTN Repayment Calculator (Malaysia) — Monthly Installment & Total Ujrah
Estimate your monthly PTPTN installment and total ujrah (service fee) for any outstanding balance and tenure.
Found on your myPTPTN portal or app under 'Baki Pinjaman'.
PTPTN typically sets 5–20 years based on loan size.
- Total ujrah
- RM 1,537.48
- Service fee on reducing balance.
- Total repayment
- RM 31,537.48
- Number of payments
- 120
- Effective annual cost
- 1%
- Ujrah is fixed at 1% per annum by PTPTN (or 0% for pre-2008).
- · PTPTN periodically offers 10–20% settlement discounts. If a discount campaign is active, paying off in lump sum is usually cheaper than continuing monthly.
- · Earlier repayment reduces both ujrah and tenure — extra monthly payments go fully to principal.
About this calculator
PTPTN (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional) is Malaysia's national higher-education loan. Loans disbursed since 2008 carry a 1% per annum 'ujrah' (a syariah-compliant service fee that replaces conventional interest), calculated on the reducing outstanding balance like a normal amortizing loan — so each monthly installment is partly ujrah and partly principal, with the ujrah portion shrinking over time. Loans disbursed before 2008 have no ujrah at all (pure principal repayment). The standard tenure varies by total loan size, ranging from 5 years for small loans up to 20 years for large ones. PTPTN offers several discount programs from time to time — typically 10–20% off total balance for one-time full settlement, or 10–15% off for consistent on-time monthly payments over a set period. This calculator uses the standard amortization formula; the actual figure on your PTPTN portal may differ slightly if you have made earlier prepayments or qualified for a discount.
Formula
Monthly = P × (r × (1+r)^n) / ((1+r)^n − 1), where r = annual ujrah ÷ 12, n = tenure in months. If ujrah = 0: Monthly = P ÷ n.
Example calculation
Example: RM30,000 balance, 10-year tenure, 1% ujrah
At 1% ujrah amortized over 120 months, the monthly installment is about RM263, total ujrah ~RM1,517, total repayment ~RM31,517 — meaning the 'cost' of the loan over 10 years is only about 5% of the original balance.
